Seahawks travel for first time in 2018 and defeat Scots, 5-2

WENHAM, Mass. - After hosting its first five games at Gaudet Field, Salve Regina University field hockey went on the road for the first time in 2018 and defeated Gordon College, 5-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Seahawks (2-4, 1-2 CCC) got on the board first in the 12th minute as Eliza Timms scored off an assist by Taylor Bulis. The Fighting Scots (2-7, 0-3 CCC) tied the game in the 18th minute as Cara Goudie scored her first career goal that was assisted by Emma Ellsworth. Salve Regina had four penalty corners in the next 17 minutes of play, but were only able to attempt two shots with neither shot being on goal. Paige Blake's shot in the 29th minute was stopped by Ally Daly to keep the game at 1-1 entering halftime.

In the second half, the Seahawks scored two goals in the first four minutes, one by Tori Bickel and one by Ashley Cody, to take a 3-1 lead. Kieran Thompson cut the deficit to one goal in the 44th minute as she received a pass from Mackenzie Gray and put it past the keeper on the right side for her first goal of the season. Gordon attempted three shots in the next three minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net. Ashley Cody scored two more goals, one in the 50th minute and one in the 53rd minute to put Salve Regina up 5-2. They sealed the win by holding the Fighting Scots to one shot in the last 17 minutes of the half.

Julia Altman recorded four saves and faced 18 shots.

Gordon next travels to take on Albertus Magnus in non-conference play Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.; Salve Regina has a 3:30 p.m. contest at Lasell.
