PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the eighth time this season, the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team found itself in a one-goal game. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they came out on the wrong end of a one-goal game for the eighth time as they dropped a 4-3 decision to Salve Regina University on Thursday.

With the loss, JWU's record fell to 2-11. The Seahawks improved to 12-2.

The Wildcats were down by two goals with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match. Sophomore Giovanna Ciavardoni (Lathan, N.Y.) pulled JWU within a goal when she deflected a Katarina Brunette (Cohoes, N.Y.) shot past the SRU goalie at the 58:42 mark.

Four minutes later, senior Amanda Takach (Lindhurst, N.Y.) plucked the ball out of a scramble in front of the net and barred it in the back of the goal to tie the match at 3-3. With 2:30 remaining in the game, SRU's Abigail Tepper – the number four goal scorer in the country – put home the game winner.

Johnson & Wales got a solid performance from goalie Shannon Yoder (Boyertown, Pa.) as she turned away 20 of the 24 goals faced. Despite giving up three goals on five shots, SRU keeper Jessie Severino got the victory. The Seahawks held a 34-to-10 advantage in shots.

After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats got on the board just three minutes into the second stanza when freshman Madeline Larson (Catonsville, Md.) put in a shot from six yards out. The Seahawks took a 3-1 lead by scoring three goals in the next 11 minutes.
