Tepper, Seahawks triumph over Vikings, 6-1

SALEM, Mass. - The Seahawks of Salve Regina defeated the Salem State Vikings, 6-1, on Thursday evening at Alumni Field. Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) led the charge with a hat-trick as the Vikings suffered their second straight loss after opening 1-0. The Seahawks improve to 3-1 on the season.

Tepper struck first for the Seahawks when she knocked in a loose ball in front of the net to make it a 1-0 game. The Vikings had several scoring opportunities early, but they could not convert and Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.) seized the opportunity to put Salve up 2-0 just before halftime.

Tepper notched her second goal in the 39th minute of the second half when she tipped in a shot by Julia Grover (Cotuit, Mass.). Five minutes later Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) gave the Seahawks a 4–0 lead when she put a rebound into the back of the net. Tepper earned her third goal of the game before Jillian Mosca (Whitesboro, N.Y.) made the score 6-0 in favor of Salve Regina. Angela Montano prevented the shutout when she scored for the Vikings late to make the final 6-1.

Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) earned the win making seven saves while her counterpart Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) made five saves in the loss.

Salve Regina hosts Endicott College (6 p.m.) on Wednesday while Salem State travels to Danbury, Conn., to face Western Connecticut State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
