MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) assisted on the game-tying goal with 11:31 remaining in the second half, before scoring two goals, to lead the Seahawk field hockey team to a 3-1 win over visiting Worcester State University in non-league action at Gaudet Field.

The Lancers (0-2) broke a scoreless tie at 53:29 with their first goal of the season. From a penalty corner, senior Taylor Ledwith (Springfield, Mass.) tapped in a cross from classmate Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, Mass.) for the 1-0 lead.

Exactly five minutes later, the Seahawks put their first point on the board. Senior Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) started a penalty and fed to Tepper on the short side. Tepper's shot was re-directed into goal by junior Erin Gendreau (Sandwich, Mass.) for her second score of the season.

Less than five minutes from there, junior Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.) controlled the ball through the center of the field before sending into the circle where Tepper touched into the net for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-1 lead.

Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.) drove the ball up the far right side before sending on net from 10 yards out. Tepper got her stick on the ball before Lancer goalkeeper Alison Bieksha (Hubbardston, Mass.) could reach on her sliding attempt.

Bieksha finished with seven saves, while Salve Regina goalkeeper Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) stopped three of the four shots on her goal.

The Seahawks (2-1) travel to Salem State University on Thursday while Worcester State also gets back in action at Anna Maria College.
