PROVIDENCE, R.I – Junior Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead Salve Regina field hockey to an 8-2 victory over Wheaton in the JWU Invitational at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Saturday evening. Junior Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) also had a pair of goals in the win for the Seahawks.

Salve Regina took the early 2-0 advantage after a pair of goals midway through the first half, including an unassisted tally by Tepper. Wheaton was able to cut the lead in half when junior Kelsey Harris (Spencer, Mass.) scored at the 22:59 mark. Salve Regina answered quickly, however and regained the two-goal advantage after junior Julia Grover (Cotuit, Mass.) put in a rebounded shot for what would prove to be the game-winner. SRU took the 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

The Seahawks controlled the action in the second stanza, outscoring Wheaton by a 5-1 margin en route to the 8-2 victory. Both of Gagnon's goals came in the second half for Salve Regina.

Senior Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) tallied two stops in the win for Salve Regina while senior Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass.) notched 13 saves in the setback for Wheaton.
