Seahawks lend a hand at Special Olympics

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University student-athletes came out in full force last Saturday, April 13, to wrap up national Division III week as athletes from all of the university's teams not in competition volunteered at Special Olympics held at Gaudet Field in partnership with Special Olympics R.I., East Bay Games.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team has been announced as a recipient of the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/Division III National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Team Award, while nine Seahawk players were named to the 2012 NFHCA Academic Squad

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 33 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2012 Fall Academic All-Conference Team, announced Monday, January 28 by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina field hockey team was honored as the recipient of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Team Sportmanship Award, while senior Kelly Burke (Georgetwon, Mass.), junior Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.), sophomore Erin Demers (Concord, N.H.), freshman Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.), and freshman Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) each earned individual honors. Burke, Bucci, Demers, Mazzola, and McCann were each named as members of the All-CCC Second Team, while Tepper was announced as the CCC Rookie of the Year.

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Seniors Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.), Emily Koehler (Pehlam, N.H.), and Suzy Libby (Danvers, Mass.) combined for four goals and four assists to lead the University of New England field hockey squad to a 5-1 victory over Salve Regina University in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season finale Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Big Blue Turf.

Lisa Bucci scored her 11th goal of the season to put the Seahawks on the board in the second half.
Scots edge Seahawks to control playoff hopes

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman forward Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) scored her seventh goal of the season late in the second half but the Seahawks could not catch Gordon College after the visiting Scots built a 3-0 first half lead. Gordon held on for a 4-3 victory over Salve Regina and assumed control of its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey playoff destination with a sweep of the season series with the Seahawks.

Gold helped Salve Regina earn a 5-2 win over WNE with a pair of goals last Wednesday.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshman member of the Salve Regina field hockey team, Allison Gold (Greenlawn, N.Y.) has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, as announced by Commissioner Gregg Kaye on Monday afternoon.

McCann stopped a game-high 14 shots on Saturday.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Nichols College during Senior Night at Gaudet Field on Saturday evening. The loss drops the Seahawks to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), while the Bison improve to 8-6 on the season, including a 4-2 mark during CCC play.

Kapatoes brought the Seahawks back within one score after notching her fifth goal of the season late in the second half.

Despite scoring both the first and last goal of the contest, the Salve Regina University field hockey team fell to Gordon College, 3-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at a rainy Brigham Athletic Complex. The win improves the Scots to 4-9 overall, 2-3 in the CCC while the loss drops Salve Regina to 7-5 overall, 2-3 in conference.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.), sophomore Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.), and freshman Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) have each received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Burke was named Player of the Week, McCann was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week, and Tepper captured the Rookie of the Week.

Tepper scored the game-winning goal, notching her 11th marker of the season.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team scored the first two goals of the contest before holding on for a 2-1 victory over the University of New England during a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at Gaudet Field on Saturday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Seahawks who now improve to 7-4 overall while evening their conference record at 2-2. The Nor'easters slip below .500 with the loss, falling to 5-6 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in CCC play.

WESTON, Mass. – Salve Regina University’s Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) scored three goals and added an assist for a seven point day as the Seahawks defeated Regis College, 8-1, on Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action. Salve Regina improves to 6-4 on the year, while Regis falls to 0-9.
