Seahawks lend a hand at Special Olympics

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University student-athletes came out in full force last Saturday, April 13, to wrap up national Division III week as athletes from all of the university's teams not in competition volunteered at Special Olympics held at Gaudet Field in partnership with Special Olympics R.I., East Bay Games.

Field hockey earns Team Sportsmanship Award and six individual All-CCC honors

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina field hockey team was honored as the recipient of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Team Sportmanship Award, while senior Kelly Burke (Georgetwon, Mass.), junior Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.), sophomore Erin Demers (Concord, N.H.), freshman Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.), and freshman Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) each earned individual honors. Burke, Bucci, Demers, Mazzola, and McCann were each named as members of the All-CCC Second Team, while Tepper was announced as the CCC Rookie of the Year.

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Seniors Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.), Emily Koehler (Pehlam, N.H.), and Suzy Libby (Danvers, Mass.) combined for four goals and four assists to lead the University of New England field hockey squad to a 5-1 victory over Salve Regina University in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season finale Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Big Blue Turf.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman forward Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) scored her seventh goal of the season late in the second half but the Seahawks could not catch Gordon College after the visiting Scots built a 3-0 first half lead. Gordon held on for a 4-3 victory over Salve Regina and assumed control of its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey playoff destination with a sweep of the season series with the Seahawks.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Nichols College during Senior Night at Gaudet Field on Saturday evening. The loss drops the Seahawks to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), while the Bison improve to 8-6 on the season, including a 4-2 mark during CCC play.

The win improves the Scots to 4-9 overall, 2-3 in the CCC while the loss drops Salve Regina to 7-5 overall, 2-3 in conference.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team scored the first two goals of the contest before holding on for a 2-1 victory over the University of New England during a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at Gaudet Field on Saturday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Seahawks who now improve to 7-4 overall while evening their conference record at 2-2. The Nor'easters slip below .500 with the loss, falling to 5-6 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in CCC play.
