NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University football head coach Kevin Gilmartin has announced that Matt Messner (Midland Park, N.J.) and Pete Noonan (Ardmore, Pa.) will be captains for the 2020-21 season.

Messner was the leader of the Seahawks defense in 2019. He was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-CCC, a New England Footbal Writers All-New England player, CCC Academic All-Conference, and named to the Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by CoSIDA.

Noonan started immediately as a freshman in 2017 and has been a staple along the Seahawks offensive line since.

"Two great student athletes who have been leaders for this team from the minute they set foot on campus," said Gilmartin. "On and off the field I am extremely confident their leadership will help develop greatness on this team."

Salve Regina's fall season has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but the Seahawks are hopeful to play Football in the spring under the leadership of their senior captains.
