SEAHAWK BASEBALL RESULTS
#24 Salve Regina 6, Wartburg 1
Henley Field - Lakeland, Fla.
Saturday, March 10, 2018

Summary
LAKELAND, Fla. - Sophomore pitcher Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) hurled seven more innings without allowing an earned run and struck out 13 more batters as No. 24 Salve Regina University baseball defeated Wartburg College, 6-1, during RussMatt Invitational action at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla. Maybach's offensive mates collected a dozen basehits including doubles by Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.), Tristan Dacey (Wyckoff, N.J.), and Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) while scoring in four of nine frames.

Series and Streaks
These two schools met for the first time in any sport. The Knights had won five straight until an 8-3 setback against UMass Dartmouth earlier in the day on Henley Field, and now carry a two-game losing skid heading into their final Florida game on Sunday, March 11 (10 a.m.), against SUNY Oswego.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina sophomore Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) worked seven innings on the mound and blanked the Knights for the first six frames before they pushed across an unearned run in the seventh. Maybach struck out 13 to raise his season K total to 28 in 14 innings. He is now 11-0 all-time as a collegiate pitcher.
  2. Salve Regina sophomore Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) batted leadoff and produced three singles to score two runs.
  3. Salve Regina junior Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.) had his second-straight three-hit game and scored a run in the second inning.

Key Stats of the Game
Maybach and classmate Tom Beliveau (West Newbury, Mass.) combined to strikeout 16 Knights; the four hits allowed were all singles.

Turning Point
After Wartburg starting pitcher Tony Rex retired the first two batters he faced, Seahawk senior Alex Perry (No. Attleboro, Mass.) ripped a single and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring a first-inning run on Tristan Dacey's double. Defensively, Salve Regina starting third baseman Sam Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) made two web-gem worthy plays at the hot corner. He ended a scoring threat in the third with a runner on second and his long throw got the final out on his fellow third baseman, Zack Hovick, and in the next frame made a diving stop to his left to get up and throw out catcher Cody Hyler.

Quick Hits

  • Smith and Ketch pulled off a double steal in the fifth to score a run and go up 4-0.
  • Anthony Ciesko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) banged out two hits including a two-out run-scoring single in the sixth.
  • Maybach (2-0) and Beliveau each had a 1-2-3 inning as their first frame of work.
  • Tony Rex (1-1) and reliever Darren Kilpatrick had a 1-2-3 in the fourth and seventh innings, respectively.
