SEAHAWK BASEBALL RESULTS

Salve Regina 13, Framingham State 7
Newport, R.I. - Reynolds Field
Wednesday, March 30, 2016

NEWPORT, R.I. - Playing at home for the first time in 2016, Salve Regina University baseball used a six-run fifth inning to overtake visiting Framingham State University, 13-7, in non-league action at Reynolds Field on Wednesday.

Series and Streaks
Seahawks and Rams met for the 13th time ever in baseball, and first since Salve Regina won 7-3 over Framingham State 10 months ago in the championship game of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament. Salve Regina has now won last three meetings with Framingham State but still trails the all-time series, 8-5. Seahawks have won four of their last five games to improve to 5-6 overall in 2016.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Day
1 – Salve Regina sophomore infielder Alex Perry (No. Attleboro, Mass.) - drove in five runs on three hits (single, double, triple).
2 – Salve Regina senior outfielder Ryan Kelly (Waldwick, N.J.) - two hits in three at bats including a leadoff homerun (his second of season) in the first inning along with three runs scored.
3 – Salve Regina sophomore pitcher Jonathan Lynch (Cumberland, R.I.) - inherited a 4-1 deficit and two baserunners in relief and struck out the first two Rams he faced; Lynch also retired seven straight batters before a leadoff double in the eighth.

Key Stat of the Day
Salve Regina pitchers struck out 14 batters led by Seahawk starter Tommy Seaver (Rocky Hill, Conn.) who had seven Ks in four innings.

Turning Points
Salve Regina trailed 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth and scored six unearned runs after two were out. Kelly was hit by a Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) pitch for the second time to load the bases with two out, and sophomore John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) delivered a run-scoring single to right field. Perry followed with a two-run double and freshman Tristan Dacey (Wyckoff, N.J.) put the Seahawks ahead with his own two-run two-bagger.

Quick Hits

  • Salve Regina had two home runs in a game for the first time this season - Kelly in the first inning and Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) in the seventh.
  • The Seahawks reached double-digit runs for the third straight game and fourth time overall.
  • Jonathan Lynch (Cumberland, R.I.) made his team-leading seventh appearance of the season, and pitched 2.1 innings (the longest of his career) with three strikeouts.
  • Five different Seahawks pitched in the top of the fifth inning with Mike Schuermann (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Garrett Franzoi (Dallas, Texas), and Lynch recording the outs. Schuermann and Franzoi both pitched to just one batter each (lefty vs. lefty).
  • The 14 Ks for Seahawk pitchers were six more than any other outing in 2016 (eight strikeouts three times).
  • Seahawks still among the top two in strength of schedule in 2016 - d3baseball.com

Quotes
"It took a while but we finally started getting on top of the ball and playing our game. I think that was a big part of us putting up six in the 5th inning, and then continuing to add on. Ryan and Mili were able to set the table and Alex, Tristan and Colton put some good swings on the ball. Tommy threw the ball well, but he was on a short leash with conference starting this weekend so we turned it to the bullpen, even though he had swing-and-miss stuff at times. And Lynchy really was the one who slowed the game down, kept us in it and allowed our offense to take back the lead. Overall we have to keep getting better and staying hungry. There are no easy games on our schedule this year." - Salve Regina head coach Eric Cirella
