Victorian Urn Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 27:

Bowdoin is excited to host the 2018 Victorian Urn Trophy. Sixteen teams arrived to a moderate NE with little rain. The breeze ramped up as the day went on with rain changing to snow and sleet. The NE breeze allowed us to sail right off the pier and eight races were completed in each division by 2:30 pm. A-division sailed FJs with B-division in 420s. All courses were W-4s. Two redress hearings were heard. It takes an army to run such an event. Thanks to Emily Shanley-Roberts, Megan Roach, and Alec Ruiz-Ramon for hearing the redresses and for Emily and Megan for keeping the sailors honest on the water. A big thank you to Jack McGuire '17 and Mimi Paz '17 for running the races and Erin Mullin '16 and Fiona Gordon (BU '12) for serving as a mark boat. The Polar Bears did a great job of keeping the rotations moving and putting the boats away at the end of the team when conditions were most sporty. Eight more races are scheduled for tomorrow.

Sunday, October 28:

Sunday started off equally as cold as Saturday with rain and breeze out of the North. The breeze shifted west as the day went on. Two races were completed in each division before we took a short break. Two more races where completed in each division in a westerly in Widgeon Cove. The final two races in each division in a moderate southerly.

A huge thank you to Erin Mullins '16 and Louis Frumer '18 for managing the mark boat and fixing boats. Jack McGuire '17 and Mimi Paz '17 did a great job of keeping the racing moving. Mike Kann '19 and Rowan Byrne '21 handled the scoring. An army of Polar Bear undergrads helped deal with the boats and manage the dock OPS. Brian Swingly was the NEISA rep. Megan Roach, Emily Shanley-Roberts, and Alec Ruiz-Rumon kept the sailors honest on the water and heard one protest to end the day.

Congrats to the Brown Bears for winning the 2018 Victorian Urn Trophy.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
