Nicholas Barnett Trophy

Twelve Teams arrived at the Leighton Sailing Center for racing at the Nicholas J. Barnett Trophy. This regatta is in memory of Nick Barnett '11 who died in a car accident at the end of the fall season. Nick loved the sport and loved being on the sailing team. The Barnett family was on hand for the event and we are thankful for all of their support.

The breeze started NW around 15 knots. Racing began just off the Pier at the Coastal Studies Center. Two A races were completed before the course was moved to Widgeon Cove where the breeze was more consistent in less current. Setting courses became more challenging as the day went on with the breeze shifting between WSW and WNW. The forecast looks great for racing tomorrow.

A big thanks to the Barnett's for providing breakfast, Justin Assad for serving as the NEISA Rep, and for all the coaches helping to move marks. Thanks to the Polar Bear undergraduates for handling the land ops.

What a great day of racing on Harpswell Sound. Racing began promptly at 10:05 in a building SW breeze and that gradually went more South as the day went on. All courses were W-4's and W-5's. Racing took place right off the Pier at the Coastal Studies Center which allowed for some great racing. A big thanks once again to the Barnett Family for providing breakfast. Thanks to the coaches for helping to deal with moving marks and helping with an injured sailor.

Congrats to the Roger Williams Hawks for winning the 2015 Barnett Trophy.
