Bio

Ed Habershaw

Longtime director of athletic communications Ed Habershaw rejoins the Salve Regina University athletics office after a year in Miami Shores, Florida, with Barry University.

Prior to joining Salve Regina, Ed Habershaw worked as the producer for an award-winning sports talk show (“Chuck Wilson on Sports”) for four years. He came to Salve Regina when the school sponsored 13 varsity programs.

Habershaw has served as Director of Athletic Communications at Salve Regina University since 1992, whereas the program has grown to 20 varsity sports with additions such as field hockey, football, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s volleyball. During that span, Habershaw has brought the school’s athletic publicity opportunities to the Internet and continues to maintain the athletics web pages.

He was instrumental in rallying support for a new nickname (Salve Regina athletic teams have gone from the moniker of “Newporters” to “Seahawks”) while helping to establish a mascot program.

Habershaw coordinates all publicity activities for Seahawk varsity athletics including an annual awards ceremony where he produces a 20-minute video presentation. A member of CoSIDA and East-COMM, he has nominated several Academic All-America© candidates with success on the national ballots in football (A.J. Albert, Luke Arnold, Mark DeBiasio, Justin Hackley), baseball (Eric Cirella [3x plus Player of the Year], Nick D'Amato) and regional ballots in women's volleyball (Julianne Barry), softball (Alisa Batten), baseball (Steven Haley), basketball (Hackley), and men's soccer (Joseph Pate, Jordan Elster). Also, Habershaw is an active member in Words Unlimited, Rhode Island’s organization of sports media and publicists.

In 2002-2003, Habershaw helped document NCAA-record 60-game hitting streak by Damian Costantino that garnered international headlines. The streak began in 2001 during Costantino's freshman campaign.

In addition to his public relations duties, Habershaw plays a key role in alumni relations as a member of the Salve Regina Athletic Hall of Fame committee. In the day-to-day operations of the athletic communications office, Habershaw oversees a work-study force as the office compiles and maintains statistics and records for the 20 sports.
