CCC announces storm postponements

NEWPORT, R.I. - Hurricane Sandy and its accompanying storms have forced postponements in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships schedule this week.

Salve Regina University women's volleyball (15-13 overall; 6-2 CCC) earned the No. 3 seed in its conference tournament and will now host No. 6 Wentworth Institute of Technology (8-15; 2-6 CCC) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in first round action at the Rodgers Recreation Center. The Seahawks swept three sets from the Leopards last Wednesday in Boston.

The winner of the first-round women's volleyball match this Wednesday advances to a semifinal match at No. 2 seed Endicott on Thursday.

Salve Regina men's soccer (14-5-1; 6-3 CCC) earned the No. 2 seed in its conference tournament and advanced to the semifinal round with a 3-0 victory over No. 7 Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. The Seahawks will now host No. 6 seed Gordon College (6-11-1; 4-5 CCC), a 1-0 upset winner over No. 3 Endicott College, at Reynolds Field on Thursday at 2 p.m.

In their only meeting this season on Sept. 15, the Scots took a 2-0 lead in the first half before Seahawk senior midfielder Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) scored in the 41st minute. Freshman Mark Marino (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Evan Thomas (Mohnton, Pa.) scored ten minutes apart in the second half to give Salve Regina a 3-2 victory.

The winner of the semifinal match will advance to Saturday's championship match which has a 75 percent chance of being held in Rhode Island.
