Words Unlimited Hall of Fame Induction - Ed Habershaw (February 16, 2020)

Feb 16, 2020
Salve Regina University associate athletic director Ed Habershaw inducted into Words Unlimited Hall of Fame; master of ceremonies is Steve McDonald. Words Unlimited, Rhode Island’s organization of sportswriters, sportscasters, and publicists, is one of the nation’s oldest and most active athletic media groups. The organization began in 1945 when 12 sportswriters and sportscasters joined to honor those individuals who made extraordinary contributions to the state’s sports scene. In February 1946, a sellout crowd packed the Biltmore Hotel’s ballroom for the first of what was to become an annual dinner. This year, Words Unlimited will host its 74th edition of the Rhode Island sports awards dinner, running the total number of honorees to more than 1,000 athletes, coaches and sports figures. The three founders of the organization - Bill Cawley, Frank Lanning, and Amby Smith - comprised the first class of inductees into the Words Unlimited Hall of Fame. Fittingly indeed, not just for their efforts in creating the organization, but because each was first-class in the way he led both his personal and professional life.
