Andrade, Haskell, Picozzi, Shanley next to join Athletic Hall of Fame
NEWPORT, R.I. (October 3, 2019) -- The Salve Regina University Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni, Parent and Family Programs, has announced the Seahawk Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Comprising the Hall of Fame's 12th induction class are George "Andy" Andrade (coach - baseball), Kaitlyn Birrell Haskell '13 (soccer, basketball), John Picozzi '97 (football, tennis), and Brian Shanley (coach - tennis, cross country).
The 2019 Seahawk Athletic Hall of Fame Induction and Brunch will take place at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Ochre Court as part of Fall Festival Weekend. Seats for this year's brunch are $25 per person (free for children under the age of five), and those interested in attending the ceremonies should register in advance by Sept. 27 at https://salve.edu/fallfestival (registration fee includes a $5 gift to Friends of Seahawk Athletics; children 5 and under are free) or in person at Ochre Court on Sunday.

Class of 2019 Hall of Fame Bios -
Andy Andrade, coach – baseball (15; 1985-1999), won five conference championships, one ECAC post season appearance, won over 240 games (243-171-5; .586) and first ever to 200-win milestone, won the first ever CCC championship in school history, coached eight Hall of Fame members, including two All-New England players in Scott Kopecky and Justin Hackley; coached the school's valedictorian for 1997, an infielder from Tiverton, R.I., Kevin Pelletier
Kaitlyn Birrell Haskell (2013), soccer (4), basketball (4) – all-time record-holder in women's soccer for goals and points in a game (4G, 9P), season (21G, 49P), and career (74G, 181P), women's soccer had its most victories during Birrell's era (42-33-2; .558) and included an ECAC appearance as host (Nov. 9, 2011), two-time CCC Offensive Player of the Year (2011, 2012), scored over 1,000 points in basketball (1,002), all-time leader in assists in a season (165) and career (539), career leader in steals (377), team won back-to-back conference championships (2011, 2012) and three straight trips to the finals, two-time Athlete of the Year (2012, 2013), two-time CCC Defensive Player of the Year (2012, 2013)
John Picozzi (1997), football (1), tennis (4) – as a freshman with football in 1993, Picozzi returned 14 punts for 99 yards including one for a touchdown; most singles wins in a season for any Seahawk men's tennis player in the 1990s (14 in 1996), first and only Salve Regina athlete to record a touchdown, interception, and an individual tennis singles championship, graduated with most career singles wins (43) and winning percentage (43-18; .705) -- only three individuals have surpassed those marks since 1997; selected as the Sportsmanship Award recipient as a senior, won his singles flight all four seasons, and part of three conference championship teams (1994, 1995, 1997)
Brian Shanley, coach – men's tennis (14; 1996-2009), cross country (5; 1996-2000) – nearly .700 winning percentage (175-76-1; .696), won 10 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships in men's tennis, Coach of the Year honors eight (8) times, advanced to second round of NCAA Championships in both trips to the tournament (2007, 2008), coached multiple players of the year in the CCC including John Picozzi (won top singles flight as a senior), Matt Urbanetti, Robert Norton; Norton and Trey Van Buskirk competed in high-level La Jolla, Calif., doubles event back-to-back years - Pacific Coast Men's Doubles, he was the ITA Northeast Coach of the Year and was one of four finalists for National Coach of the Year (2007)
