Varone, Brennan earn all-conference accolades in final cross country season

NEWPORT, R.I. - Two Salve Regina University senior cross country members garnered honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) during the league's championship meets last Saturday in Springfield, Mass. - Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) and Jay Brennan (North Haven, Conn.).

Varone earned a spot on the all-Commonwealth Coast Conference Team in leading Salve Regina to a second-place finish in the CCC Championship. Varone placed sixth in the field of 107 runners to lead the scoring for the Seahawks, finishing the 6K course in 23:40 and earning her second all-CCC bid. Varone last earned all-CCC honors in 2013, when she was also the top freshman in the conference.

Brennan shared the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award with Greg Whitney of Eastern Nazarene College. Brennan, a nursing major who serves as a board member on the school's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and Whitney, tied for the academic honors in balloting among the CCC coaches.
