Seahawks take second at Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. - Salve Regina placed two scorers in the top 10 and five in the top 15 to earn a second-place finish at the Tri-State Invitational hosted by the Community College of Rhode Island.

Senior Shannon Holden (Hingham, Mass.) again led the way for the Seahawks, finishing second overall in 20:01.29. Holden positioned herself among the leaders from the start, running in third and fourth place in the opening mile and moving up to second in the closing loop around the campus. Her finish marked a 57-second improvement from her previous performance on the grass-and-trail course at CCRI.

Junior Taylor Ricker (Rocky Point, N.Y.) was Salve Regina's No. 2 runner for the second week in a row, crossing the finish line at 20:34.21 to place ninth overall. Ricker was 44 seconds faster in this running of the Tri-State Invitational than she was in 2014.

Sophomore Olivia Wilson (Bethel, Conn.), junior captain Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) and senior captain Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for Salve Regina, crossing the finish line at 20:42.89, 20:55.96 and 20:58.04. Junior Alannah O'Rourke (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) ran at No. 6, finishing at 21:05.14, and senior Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.), ran at No. 7, finishing at 21:17.10.

Bridgewater State University placed four scorers in the top 10 to win the team title with a score of 37. The Seahawks finished second with 49 points. Roger Williams University was third with 86, and Eastern Connecticut State University placed fourth with 104. Bridgewater State senior Danielle Poto won the individual title with a time of 19:42.43.
