Summary
Visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute overcame deficits late in both the second and third sets to complete a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) sweep over the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team in non-conference action Thursday night.
Series and Streaks
This was the fourth meeting between the two teams. The Engineers still hold a 4-0 record in the all-time series.
Three Stars of the Match
- WPI junior Casey Hunt (Granby, Conn.) had a match-high 15 kills while chipping in 11 digs and two blocks.
- WPI junior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, Mass.) registered a match-high 34 assists while adding 10 digs, a block, kill, and ace.
- Salve Regina junior Cassidy Trabilcy (Phoenix, Ariz.) tied a match-high with 19 digs, with two aces and two kills.
Turning Point
The Seahawks held a 22-20 lead in the second set after a going on a 5-0 run with Sydney Puffer (Kittery, Maine) at the service line. Three Seahawk errors aided the Engineers in a 5-1 run in response to close out the set and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. Similarly the Seahawks held a 23-19 lead in the third trying to avoid elimination. Again it was three Salve Regina errors and two kills from Hunt helping the Engineers complete the sweep with 25-23 set wins in both the second and third.

- The Engineers held a 75-60 advantage in digs.
- Sophomore Victoria Schwendeman (Glen rock, N.J.) paced the Seahawks with seven kills while senior Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) led the team with 20 assists.
