Summary
The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team snapped a four game losing streak by defeating Salem State University 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-14) in a non-conference meeting.
Series and Streaks
This was the second all-time meeting between the Seahawks and the Vikings. Salve Regina has won both meeting, 3-2 last season in New London, Conn. and a sweep here tonight.
Three Stars of the Match
1 – Salve Regina junior Samantha Higgins (Coventry, R.I.) - had a match-high eight kills while boasting a .462 hitting percentage. Higgins also added two digs, two blocks, and three aces.
2 – Salve Regina sophomore Erin Proctor (Canton, Mass.) - had a match-high 27 assists to along with nine digs, two aces, and a block.
3 – Salve Regina sophomore Cassidy Trablicy (Phoenix, Ariz.) - match Higgins for the match-high with eight kills while adding four digs, two aces, a block, and an assist.
Turning Point
The first set was back and forth with both teams holding the lead. The Seahawks were holding a narrow 16-13 when a kill from Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) brought Syndey Puffer (Kittery, Maine) to the line. Puffer would serve eight times as the Seahawks completed a 9-0 run to stun the Vikings and take the first set 25-13. The Vikings committed five straight errors to end the set.
Quick Hits
- Errors were a major problem for the Vikings as they committed 26 while the Seahawks only committed 13.
- Olivia Summit (Peabody, Mass.) and Emily Hennessy (Hanover, Mass.) both tied for the team lead in kills for the Vikings with three each.
- Hannah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) had a match-high 16 digs for Salem State.
- After holding a narrow 9-7 lead in the first set the Vikings never lead again until they jumped on top 1-0 and 2-1 in the third and final set.
