Summary
The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team used a third set rally to take control of a closely contested match and defeat Wheaton College 3-1 in non-conference action Thursday night.

Series and Streaks
This was the tenth all-time meeting between the two teams and the series is now tied 5-5.

Three Stars of the Match
1 – Salve Regina junior Samantha Higgins (Coventry, R.I.) - had 10 kills, three digs, and a match-high eight blocks, six solo, to lead the Seahawks in scoring. 
2 – Salve Regina junior Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) - notched a match-high 37 assists, to go along with 17 digs, three blocks, two aces, and a kill.
3 – Wheaton junior Stephanie Martin (Centerville, Mass.) - recorded a match-high 30 digs.

Turning Point
After splitting the first two sets the Lyons used a 12-4 run in the third set to take a 21-17 lead. The Seahawks then answered with a 5-0 run, featuring three kills from freshman Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.). A Salve Regina service error tied the set again at 22-22 before Cassidy Trablicy (Phoenix, Ariz.) knocked in a kill to give the lead back to the Seahawks. The Lyons would not go away however, scoring twice more on an error and then a kill from Emily Bouthillette (Lincoln, R.I.). The Lyons had set point but committed an error on the serve leaving the door open for the Seahawks. A kill from Samantha Higgins and another error by the Lyons capped a 9-4 run for Salve Regina, giving the Seahawks a comeback set-three victory and control of the match. 

Key Stat
The Seahawks totaled 14 blocks in the match while the Lyons only had five. 

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks fell behind 6-5 in the fourth set then never trailed again the remainder of the match.
  • The Lyons recorded more kills (49) then the Seahawks (46), but committed more errors, 34, to the Seahawks 28.
  • Trablicy led the Seahawks with 13 kills, while Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) led the team in digs with 19.
