NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University women's volleyball head coach Lauren Parsons has named Kat Mendes (New Bedford, Mass.) and Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) as captains for the 2016 season.

"Kat Mendes is a returning captain for us and now in her senior year and our only senior she is going to being experience and drive to the court for us," said Parsons. "She is a natural leader".

"Sam Salwa in her first year of being a captain brings excitement and energy to the court," Parsons said. "As a new captain for us I know she will thrive in the role. Both Kat and Sam are leaders on and off the court and I'm excited for them to setup and lead this team to a great season."

In 2015 Mendes led the Seahawks in services aces (31) and kills per set (2.44) while Salwa led the team in assists (517) as a primary setter.

The Seahawks open their season on September 3 versus Guilford as part of a tournament at Averett University; coach Parsons' alma mater.
