Seahawks sweep Lions; improve to 2-1 in CCC

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions sink to 3-13 on the year and 0-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Seahawks improve to 6-10 overall and 2-1 in league play with the win. Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) notched a team-high six kills on the night to go with three blocks. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with three kills, five assists, six digs, three blocks and two aces. Oksana DiCamillo (Eighty-Four, Pa.) chipped in with six digs while Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) posted four assists and three digs.
The visitors claimed the opening set 25-13 before doubling their lead with a 25-14 victory in the second. Eastern Nazarene tallied four consecutive points to cut the third-set deficit to 20-18. Salve Regina responded with the final five points to secure its second straight conference win with a 25-18 decision in the third.
Fiona Nunez (Hapmton Bays, N.Y.) paced the Seahawks with seven kills while Kat Mendes (New Bedford, Mass.), Emily Lipinski (Hampden, Mass.) and Tara Kellenbarger (Encinitas, Calif.) all collected five kills. Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) dished out 20 assists and Chrissy Fraga (Milford, Mass.) recorded six digs.
Up next both teams will take a break from CCC action. Salve Regina will travel to fave Western Connecitcut State on October 2 while the Lions will look to snap their four-match skid with a road tilt at Anna Maria on October 1.
