WENHAM, Mass.—Salve Regina fought off set points in the first and second games, before closing out Gordon 3-0 at the Bennett Center on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks came up on the right side of three close games and improve to 5-10 on the season, while Gordon drops to 8-7. Both teams even their records in the Commonwealth Coast Conference at 1-1.

Momentum was hard to come by on Saturday afternoon as both teams traded points for majority of the match. Runs were held to a minimum with both offenses struggling to find any consistent rhythm.

Gordon built up a 14-1 lead in the first set on a combination of service aces and attack errors committed by the Seahawks. Salve Regina eventually knotted things at 18 points piece before Gordon went back up 21-18 to pull within sight of a first set victory.

Salve Regina had other plans, tying the match three times despite a host of set points for the Scots and clinched the set at 28-26.

Set two followed a similar storyline with Gordon holding a 21-18 lead late in the game until Salve came storming back. The Seahawks capitalized on three straight attack errors by the Scots to take a 22-21 advantage.

This time Gordon was able to stave off the tide for a time, taking a 24-23 lead thanks to an ace by Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.). However, Salve ended the set with three straight points for the second consecutive game to garner a 2-0 lead.

The Fighting Scots led by as many as five points early in the third set, but could not contain their momentum. Salve battled its way all the way back to a 20-20 tie and took five of the final six points to close out the Scots in three sets.

Salve outhit the Fighting Scots 52-36 in kills for the day, including a game-high 12 from Emily Lipinski (Hampden, Mass.). Samantha Higgins (Coventry, R.I.) had a solid game for the Seahawks with seven kills and contributing four total blocks. Erin Proctor (Canton, Mass.) put up 33 assists for Salve and libero Chrissy Fraga (Milford, Mass.) had 25 digs.

Gordon was led by Jenna Labbadia (Berlin, Conn.) with eight kills and Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) with 25 assists. Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) had a game-high 29 digs in the loss. Petersen and Kristen Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) also had double-digit digs.

The Seahawks stay on the road on Tuesday with a trip to Quincy to take on Eastern Nazarene. Gordon heads to Biddefore, Maine for a CCC match with UNE on the same night.
