Salve Regina continues postseason with ECACs

Salve Regina makes its fourth straight appearance in the ECAC Division III New England Women's Volleyball Championships and third straight as a host.

DANBURY, Conn. - The ECAC announced the field for the Division III New England ECAC Championships for women's volleyball on Monday, and Salve Regina has been selected to the field of seven. With a 20-10 season to date which saw their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason run end in a four-set loss to #1 Roger Williams, the Seahawks have been named the #2 seed in the seven team tournament and will host #7 Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Joining Salve Regina and MCLA in the field are fellow CCC members, #1 Western New England (19-12) and #4 Endicott (16-16), as well as non-conference foes #3 Worcester State (23-9), #5 University of Southern Maine (18-13), #6 St. Joseph's (Conn.) (16-7). Of these teams, the Seahawks have faced the Golden Bears, Lancers, and Gulls in 2014, having posted a 3-1 mark in four separate meetings.

Salve Regina defeated Worcester State on October 11 (3-1) and followed that match with a 3-0 sweep of Endicott in Beverly, Mass., on October 15. The Seahawks carried a season-high nine-match win streak into their regular-season meeting with the Golden Bears, but Western New England ended that streak with a 3-1 victory on October 22.

Last Thursday, Salve Regina traveled to Springfield, Mass., to post a 3-2 upset of the second-seeded Western New England squad and advanced to the CCC finals for the second time in program history.

The Trailblazers of MCLA have had a successful 2014 campaign, posting a record over .500 for the first time since the 2010 season. The Trailblazers fell to Bridgewater State in the MASCAC Quarterfinals 3-0 to end their conference push.

The winner of the #2/#7 matchup will advance to Western New England to take on the winner of #3 Worcester State and #6 Saint Joseph's on Saturday.
