NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior captain and libero Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) surpassed 1,000 career digs, however the Seahawks still fell 3-0 to the Beacons of UMass Boston.

The Seahawks played a competitive back and forth first set with the Beacons, at one point holding a 19-14 edge before allowing an 11-5 run from the Beacons to drop the set.  Salve Regina played the second set to a tie at 6-6 before the Beacons took control, winning 25-16.

Early in the third set after recording her 1,000th dig there was a pause in the action and the opportunity to give a round of applause in recognition of Tauro's career milestone. Tauro gave a quick wave to the crowd; a clap of her hands, shouting some words to her teammates and it was back to business with her team trailing 5-1 and in need of a play. The Seahawks wound up dropping that third and final set 25-14.

On the night Tauro totaled 17 digs, one kill, one ace, and an assist. Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) logged 21 assists to go along with six digs, a kill, and an ace.  Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) led the team in kills with eight, to go with 12 digs and an assist.

For the Beacons two players Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) and Kristen Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) led the way with 12 kills each.  Meanwhile sophomore Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) recorded 17 digs to lead the team as well as tallying four assists and a kill.  Junior Emma Rocha (Boynton Beach, Fla.) recorded 20 assists to go with six digs and freshman Jillian Brown (Oak Park, Calif.) had three aces.

The Seahawks now sit at 6-5 on the season and will travel to Framingham State on Tuesday September 23 for a 7 p.m. match before returning home on Friday September 26 for the beginning of CCC play against Roger Williams.
