Seahawks blank Lynx 3-0 in home opener

Newport, R.I. – The Salve Regina women's volleyball team broke its three-game losing streak Thursday with a 3-0 victory over Lesley University. The Seahawks improve their record to 2-3 on the young 2014 season.

Salve Regina won the first set 25-19, then won the second set 25-12, highlighted by a 12-0 run with Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) serving. The final set was a back and forth affair before the Seahawks finally prevailed 25-22.

Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) led the team in kills with eight and added 10 digs. Violet tallied a single kill, 14 assists, and seven digs.  And senior captain Dianna Tauro (Melorse, Mass.) lead the team in digs with 11 to go along with two assists.

Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) led the Lynx in kills with eight. Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Penn.) recorded a match-high 15 digs. Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) was the assist leader for Lesley with 12.

The Seahawks next travel to face UMass Dartmouth on September 9 before returning home to face Wheaton(Mass) and Southern Vt. in the Ocean State Classic.
