DELTONA, Fla. - Salve Regina University women's volleyball player Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) will be playing in Brazil this month. Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events announces the roster and coaches for the USA D-3 Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams – Brazil Tour 2014. The team is made up of invited NCAA Division III volleyball players from throughout the United States. Team members have been recognized as All American, All Region and All Conference.
"This is an outstanding group of volleyball players that come from 16 different states and 17 different colleges and universities from across the country," says Smith. "We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing almost every region in the country. This group of players has been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer."
The USA D-3 Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2014 in Orlando, Fla., on May 17. The tour runs from May 17-26. After team orientation and practice in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday, May 18. The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams will play doubleheader matches (men and women) on May 19, 20 and 21 in the state of Sao Paulo versus selected teams from the region. On May 22, the team travels to Rio de Janeiro for a match on May 23. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of May 25 and return to Orlando on May 26.
While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
Duggan, a two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) all-star, will enter her senior season as the school's all-time leader in kills per set (2.75).
"I'm so excited for Jenn to have this opportunity," says Seahawk head coach Lauren Parsons, who guided the Seahawks to a 26-5 mark in 2013 and earned CCC Coach of the Year honors. "She will never experience anything like this again and I know that she is going to be grateful for every second she is over there. She is going to learn so much while playing in Brazil. It's going to make her grow as a young lady and open her up to another world of volleyball. For Salve to be represented is amazing and I'm so proud of the fact that this team has gotten recognized for its hard work. I know Jenn will represent us well with her playing ability and personality."
