Seahawks sweep home tri-match

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina women's volleyball team remained perfect on its home court as the Seahawks swept Newbury, 3-0, before defeating Framingham St., 3-1. Framingham St. swept Newbury 3-0 in the middle match of today's tri-match. 

Over the two matches, senior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) led the 12-1 Seahawks with 25 kills and posted 26 digs. Junior Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) was close behind Adams with 23 kills and led the team with 30 digs. 

Leading the way for Framingham St. (9-2) was senior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with 18 kills each. Sophomore Danielle Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.) led the defense with 23 digs over the two matches while junior Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) handed out 32 assists. 

Freshman Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) directed the offense for Newbury with a team-high nine kills over the pair of matches while freshman Madison Clemmons (Riverside, Calif.) handed out 11 assists. Freshman Lindsey Clark (River Edge, N.J.) posted 18 digs for Newbury.

Salve Regina and Newbury opened the tri-match with a three-set sweep in favor of the Seahawks. Adams posted a double-double in the win for Salve Regina with 13 kills and 14 digs while Violet handed out 34 assists. Clemmons led the Nighthawks with six kills and 11 assists. The Seahawk won in straight sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18. 

Framingham St. kicked off the tri-match against Newbury and won in straight sets, 25-21, 25-11, 25-17. Rackliffe led the match with eight kills while Martin had 11 assists and freshman Sara Malicka (Southington, Conn.) collected seven digs over the three sets. Banks and Clark each had five kills for the Nighthawks while Banks handed out nine assists. Clark and junior Meghan McDermott (Hampton, N.H.) each collected five digs for Newbury. 

Salve Regina and Framingham St. wrapped up the day with a rematch of a 3-0 victory for the Seahawks earlier this season. Though the Rams took the second set, Salve Regina handed Framingham St. just its second loss of the season with a 3-1 victory. Fernades controlled the Rams offense with 12 kills while Martin dished out 20 assists. Duggan paced the Seahawks with 13 kills and a season-high 21 digs in the 3-1 victory. Violet handed out 41 assists. The Seahawks defeated the Rams by set scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18. 

Salve Regina returns to the court when the Seahawks host neighboring Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
