Seahawks suffer first loss, split Rivier tri-match

NASHUA, N.H. – The Salve Regina women's volleyball defeated Rivier, 3-1, before suffering its first loss of the season to Babson in straight-sets at a tri-match hosted by Rivier, Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks (9-1) dropped their first set, 25-17, in seven matches to open up against Rivier before battling back to easily take the final three sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16.

Junior Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) controlled the offense for Salve Regina with a  season-high 15 kills in the match while junior Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) handed out 36 assists in the four-set win. Senior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) recorded a match-high 24 digs.

Babson handed Salve Regina its first loss of the year with a three-set sweep to close out the tri-match. Babson won 25-15, 25-18, 25-17.

Violet handed out 14 assists in the loss while Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) collected eight digs to lead the Seahawks.

Salve Regina returns to action when the Seahawks host Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
