Seahawks earn three-set victory over Lasers

NEWPORT, R.I - Sophomore Erin McGloin (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded a game-high nine kills and three blocks to lead the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) victory over Lasell College at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Thursday night. The Seahawks have beaten the Lasers during each of their last six meetings, improving to 12-7 overall while Lasell slps to 5-18.

McGloin compiled her nine digs on just 14 swings, recording an impressive .500 attack percentage. Classmate Katelyn Beauregard (Dartmouth, Mass.) also played well, notching eight kills on 15 attacks, while sophomore Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) led all players with 29 assists and senior Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a game-high 18 digs.

The Lasers received a team-high eight kills from freshman Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.), while fellow freshman Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) dished-out 17 assists. Freshman Jordan Seid (Rowland Heights, Calif.) also had a strong night, leading the Lasers with 14 digs in the loss.

The two teams battled to an 8-all tie in the first set before the Seahawks pulled away with a 15-5 run, building a 23-13 advantage before sealing the frame on an ace by McGloin, 25-15.

The second set was eerily similar as the two clubs struggled to a 9-9 tie midway through the frame before the Seahawks once again separated themselves by scoring 16 of the next 21 points to take the middle stanza 25-14.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 11-5 advantage in the third set and never looked back. Salve Regina expanded their lead to 19-9 before eventually withstanding a late run by the Lasers to take the final frame 25-16.

Both teams return to action this Saturday, with Lasell hosting a Dig Pink tri-match for breast cancer awareness at 10 a.m., and the Seahawks traveling to Rhode Island College to take place in the Rhody Four Tournament starting at 11 a.m.
