Coast Guard blanks Salve Regina, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshmen Catherine Walker (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) and Lauren Bloch (Centennial, Colo.) each tallied eight kills to lead Coast Guard Academy to a 3-0 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference volleyball action Saturday morning at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

 

The Bears - who finished the match with a .252 hitting pct. - improved to 12-1 with the win. Senior Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) recorded a match-high nine kills for the Seahawks (5-11), who dropped game one 25-13, game two 25-12, and game three 25-19.

 

Walker recorded four kills and four digs in game one to spark the Bears while Rubenoff and classmate Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) each posted two kills for Salve Regina. Junior Hillary Adams (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Nicole Johnson (New Braunfels, Texas), and freshman Rachel Cuthrell (Palm City, Fla.) each notched three kills in the second game for Coast Guard, and Bloch's four kills in the third game sealed the win.

 

Salter finished the match with seven kills and eight digs for the Seahawks while sophomore Jessica Meyer (Seymour, Conn.) tallied 22 assists and eight digs.

 

The Seahawks return to action later this afternoon when they host Eastern Connecticut State (7-9) at 3 p.m.
