Camels down Seahawks, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) notched 12 kills and 10 digs to lead Connecticut College to a 3-0 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference volleyball action Thursday night at Rodgers Recreation Center. The match was also the Seahawks 'Play 4 the Cure' fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

Sophomore Molly Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) added 10 kills, nine digs and three blocks (one solo) for the Camels, who ran their win streak to five matches and improved to 18-4 on the season. Sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) recorded a team-high nine kills for the Seahawks (8-16).

The Camels won game one, 25-17, behind seven kills from sophomore Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) and four from senior Meg Christman (Wilmington, Del.). Junior Natalie Rubenoff (North Hartford, Conn.) led Salve Regina with three kills while senior Brittany Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) recorded five digs.

In game two, the Camels posted a .419 hitting percentage in route to a 25-9 win. Wise and freshman Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) each tallied four kills to lead the visitors while Barry recorded a game-high four kills for the Seahawks.

Connecticut College closed out the match with a come-from-behind 25-22 win in game three. Barrett recorded six of her 10 kills in the third and decisive frame while senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) led the Seahawks with five.

"We played one of the best teams in New England. At times, we played great and hung with them, but overall, we struggled," said Seahawk head coach Jen Maxwell. "On a more positive note, the fundraiser was a success. We raised over $250, and the entire event (postgame serving contest) was quite entertaining."

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they host Emmanuel at 1 p.m. The Camels travel to Beverly, Mass. for a tri-match at Endicott with Coast Guard.
