PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Six Seahawks won their events at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational held at Portsmouth (R.I.) High School Saturday, April 25. Salve Regina finished second with 133 points behind Roger Williams with 173. Gordon (81 points) and Nichols (9 points) rounded out the scoring.

One of the biggest efforts of the day was achieved by Amy Irving (Bohemia, N.Y.) in the 1500m, who broke the meet record of 5:03.04, set by Hannah Zydanowicz of Roger Williams in 2014. Amy crossed the line in a collegiate best of 4:56.76.

Next up in the winner's circle was Kelsey Knight (Amherst, N.H.) in the 100m hurdles who dominated the barriers in a seasonal best time of 17.75. She was strongly supported by Emily Enoch (Amawalk, Conn.) who crossed the line in second place in 19:22 for the best finish of her collegiate career. Chrissy Fraga (Milford, Mass.) then completely outclassed the competition in the 400m hurdles, recording a 1:11.79 seasonal best. Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) rounded out the winners on the track with a 19:29.81 effort in the 5000m.

The field events also proved to be a rich arena for victory as Rebecca Longvall (Boylston, Mass.) captured her fourth consecutive javelin title with a 115'2" heave. She was supported by Olivia Conway (Jefferson, N.H.) whose 98'3" effort was good for second place. Conway's javelin throw was preceded by a winning effort in the shot put where she tossed the ball 32' 7.75".

Erin McCarthy (Walpole, Mass.) sped  to second place finishes in both the 100m and 200m, recording times of 13.30 and 27.42 respectively and leapt to a 15'0" effort in the long jump, also good for second place. In another second place finish, Tiffany Davila (Smithfield, R.I.) threw the hammer a career best 109'4". The team of Longvall, Taylor Donaldson (Clinton, Conn.), Knight and McCarthy powered to a 52.89 second place finish in the 4x100m relay.

Third places were recorded by Donaldson in the 200m (28.24), Kelsey Davidson (Duxbury, Mass.) in the high jump (4'4"), and both Samantha Whitaker (Smithfield, R.I.) and Victoria Luerssen (Miller Place, N.Y.) in the pole vault (8'6").

"Our team performed really well today," commented head coach Matt Hird. "Everyone gave it their all; their enthusiasm was great, their competitiveness outstanding, and they have every reason to feel proud of themselves. It's great to walk away from a meet feeling good, thinking that we did just about as well as we could have. It was a great way to end our regular schedule."

Next weekend the Seahawks go to MIT for the Division III Championships. Chrissy Fraga competes in the Heptathlon on Friday and Saturday. Amy Irving runs in the 5000m and Rebecca Longvall throws the javelin on Saturday and our 4x100m and 4x800m relay teams will compete as well.
