NEWPORT, R.I. - Endicott College freshman Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) won at second doubles and first singles to contribute two points in a 9-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's tennis victory over Salve Regina University.
The Gulls improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play while the Seahawks (2-2, 1-2 CCC) drop their second match in two days.
Hoover paired with senior teammate Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) for the Gulls' first win, 8-0, at second doubles. Seniors Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) won by the same score at third doubles.
At first doubles, Seahawk freshmen Lauren Harvey (Edmond, Okla.) and Makenzie Sadler (Mystic, Conn.) trailed 7-0 before catching one game. Sophomore Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas) broke serve for the 8-1 final.
Harvey and Hoover split their first two sets at first singles, with the Gulls' first-year player earning a win in a third-set tiebreak (10-4). That marked two days in a row Harvey had rallied in the second to force a third-set tiebreak, with no win to show for it.
