Seahawks sweep Blue Jays, 9-0

HARTFORD, Conn. - It's been 24 years since Salve Regina University and University of Saint Joseph met in a women's tennis match, but the result was the same. Seahawks defeat Blue Jays, 9-0.

A pair of freshmen - Lauren Harvey (Edmond, Okla.) and Makenzie Sadler (Mystic, Conn.) - contributed three points at the top positions. They debuted in doubles as the No. 1 pair and won, 8-1. Harvey won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles while Sadler took a little longer to finish a 7-6(7-3), 6-1 triumph.

Seahawk seniors (and tri-captains) - Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.), Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.), Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) - contributed four points as Burke and Carlin combined for an 8-4 win at second doubles while Godshalk paired with sophomore Erin Stangel (Old Saybrook, Conn.) for an 8-2 win at third doubles. Burke won in straight sets at third singles, dropping just three games. Carlin split her first two sets at sixth singles - each player swept six games in a set - before winning a third-set, tiebreak, 10-8.

Stangel also took her singles match in straight sets as did fellow classmate Laura Krick (Groton, Conn.).
