NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's tennis will return to campus on Monday, August 28, for its fall pre-season; today the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released the results of the its coaches pre-season poll for the sport.

Nichols was perfect in Commonwealth Coast Conference play a year ago as it went 8-0 (17-4 overall) and earned its first conference title since 2010. The Bison were picked to defend their title in the CCC Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The reigning champions earned 80 points in the poll including eight of the nine first place votes in the voting conducted by the nine CCC women's tennis coaches last week.

The first matches involving CCC teams take place on Friday, Sept. 1 with five non-conference matchups. League play gets going less than a week later on Thursday, Sept. 7. The top six teams in the 2017 regular-season conference standings will qualify for the CCC Tournament. The tournament gets underway Wednesday, Oct. 11 with the quarterfinals and concludes Saturday, Oct. 21 with the championship match. The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.

He anticipates an exciting, competitive, and action-packed fall beginning with a home contest against Rhode Island College. Although the squad graduated two seniors (Taylor AmendolaEmma Gruber) that contributed greatly last season, the team will be adding some new freshman talent this year that should contribute to a relatively deep and healthy singles and doubles lineup.  Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.) and Priscilla Gaspard (Brockton, Mass.) both return with significant experience at second singles (four and six matches, respectively).
