Hawks defeat Seahawks, 9-0

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University women's tennis team got back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 victory against Salve Regina University.

Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) helped put the Hawks on the board with an 8-0 win against Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.) and Shealyn FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) at #3. Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) and Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Conn.) took down Priscilla Gaspard (Brockton, Mass.) and Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) 8-1 at #1, while Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) wrapped up the sweep with an 8-2 victory against Taylor Amendola (Westbrook, Conn.) and Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.).

Singles play saw the Seahawks notch only five game wins on the day. Akerman, McCarthy, and Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) each won their matches without dropping a game. Akerman defeated Burke at #3, with Roche over Carlin at #5 and McCarthy over FitzPatrick at #6. Hughes and Stankiewicz posted identical 6-1, 6-0 wins at #2 and #4, respectively. Gruber managed to take three games against Kaiserman at #1, but still fell by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Roger Williams (10-2, 5-1 CCC) heads to Nichols on Saturday, while Salve Regina (2-8, 2-6 CCC) hosts Johnson & Wales on Sunday, October 16.
