Tennis four plus six
MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina University 6-3 this afternoon at the Big Nine Courts in Milton, Mass. The loss drops the Colonels to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the CCC. With the win, the Seahawks improve their record to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in CCC action.
Salve Regina swept the Colonels in four of the six single matches and two doubles. Curry earned two singles victories and one doubles by default.
The Seahawks No. 1 singles player, Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) outlasted Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.) in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0. Salve's No. 2 singles player Priscilla Gaspard (Brockton, Mass.) claimed her tilt verse Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.), 6-3, 6-1. Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for the Seahawks, 6-1, 6-1 by defeating Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.).
In doubles, the No.1 pair Gruber and Gaspard earned an 8-6 victory over the Colonels Hardy and Prete. The No. 2 duo of Burke and Godshalk bested Curry's Ferris and Harrison, 8-1.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday, September 17 at 11 a.m. when they travel to CCC opponent Nichols. The Seahawks also return to action on Saturday, September 17, when they host CCC opponent Endicott in an 11 a.m. start.
