NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University first-year women's tennis head coach Peter Torgrimson has named his two seniors - Taylor Amendola (Westbrook, Conn.) and Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) - as his captains for the 2016-17 season.

Emma and Taylor have been "really great at cheering and I think it's awesome when the players hear their whole team clapping and supporting each other at matches and practice!"

Amendola studies nursing while Gruber majors in global business and economics, and enjoyed her last semester in France. Both contributed to the team's grade point average over 3.30 and qualifying as an All-Academic Team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The Seahawks, who will host the 32nd annual Grass Court Doubles Championships at the Tennis Hall of Fame next weekend, travel to Milton, Mass., on Wednesday for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match against Curry College.
