NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University director of athletics Jody Mooradian announces the hiring of Peter Torgrimson (East Greenwich, R.I.) as head coach for men's and women's tennis.

Peter Torgrimson's background includes success as a player in high school and college and plenty of teaching experience as a USPTA certified tennis professional. He was the state high school singles champion in Minnesota in 2002. Torgrimson first played collegiately from 2002-2003 at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. He returned to his home state to play on the Division I level as a Golden Gopher for the University of Minnesota from 2004-07.

After graduating from college in 2007 he played professionally and held a world ranking. Torgrimson has taught tennis at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., the Peninsula Racquet Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Phoenix, Ariz., the Greenwich Country Club in Greenwich, Conn., and most recently at The Dunes Club in Narragansett, R.I.

He has worked with players of all ages and ability levels at several competitive junior programs across the country. Peter's tennis philosophy is that the more fun a player has on the court, the better they will play and the more they will learn.

"Looking forward to meeting the players and working with the team in just over a week; such a beautiful setting to have a college tennis experience," says Torgrimson.

Mooradian also announced Torgrimson will be hiring assistant coaches for each program.

"I am extremely excited to have someone as accomplished as Peter to lead the men's and women's tennis programs," says Mooradian. "He is a very vibrant and qualified professional. He has played and coached at a very high level. He will be a great addition to Salve Regina University."

The Seahawks compete as a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) at the NCAA Division III level. The women's program begins its pre-season on August 28 and features over a dozen events on its fall schedule including the annual Grass Court Doubles Championships hosted by Salve Regina at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
