NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University tennis coach Cory Tusler has announced three players as his captains for the women's tennis team in 2015-16. Seniors Julie Grant (Warwick, R.I.) and Kasey Walther (Natick, Mass.) will share captains' duties with junior Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) for the Seahawks.

"I am so impressed with women's tennis captains who have organized the team from uniforms, to yoga and on-the-court training, to attending the Salve Regina soccer game the other night," said Tusler.

"This is the most organized group of captains I have had in a long time. They are out going, great leaders, and have made a lasting impression on the new incoming players that will be with us for the next four years. The team is the best!!"

All three are captains for the first time with the Seahawk program which opens its regular season with a non-league match against nationally-ranked Babson College on Tuesday, September 1 (3:30 p.m.) in Newport. The team's opening day lineup may feature newcomers in three of the six singles positions.

Walther has held the No. 1 singles position each of her first three seasons; last spring she spent the academic semester in Italy. Grant and Gruber have twice been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team members.
