NEWPORT, R.I. – Endicott College women's tennis remained unbeaten in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play after the Gulls defeated Salve Regina University, 9-0, on Friday afternoon in Newport, Rhode Island. The Gulls improved to 9-2 overall and 7-0 in league action following their effort against the Seahawks (4-3; 4-3 CCC).

Endicott visits CCC opponent Curry (0-11, 0-7 CCC) in its final conference match of the regular season before the CCC Championships begin on Tuesday, October 7, with quarterfinal play. The Gulls have clinched the top seed and earn a bye in that round. For its final regular season match, Salve Regina faces current two seed Nichols College on Saturday (match moved to 10 a.m.) while the Seahawks have already clinched the fifth seed in the playoffs.

Against Salve Regina, Endicott won all three doubles matches in convincing fashion before taking each singles match in straight sets. Senior captains Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) as well as junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and freshmen Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) all secured points in both singles and doubles matches.

Heacox and Reilly teamed up at the #1 doubles position to win 8-1 over sophomore Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) and senior Hayley Maxwell (Pound Ridge, N.Y.). Egbert and Bergstein played their #2 doubles opponents, seniors Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.) and Meg Olson (Colchester, Vt.), to an 8-2 victory. The combination of Newman and fellow junior Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) took down their #3 doubles opponents, Taylor Amendola (Westbrook, Conn.) and Courtney Bailey (No. Dartmouth, Mass.), 8-1.

In singles action, Heacox won #1 singles 6-1, 6-1, Egbert won 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles, and Reilly won the #3 singles flight 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) won #5 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Bergstein was victorious at #6 singles 6-1, 6-0. Bailey gave Newman a battle at #4 singles, but the Endicott junior won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
