NEWPORT, R.I. - Gordon College freshman Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) won at first doubles and first singles to lead the Scots to a 6-3 victory over Salve Regina University women's tennis in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action in Newport.

Hall and classmate Cindi Flynn (Sunset Beach, Calif.) grabbed a quick 8-0 victory at first doubles over Gina Ciliberti (West Islip, N.Y.) and Hayley Maxwell (Pound Ridge, N.Y.). Freshman Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and senior Jessie Dupre (North Billerica, Mass.) won the last four games at third doubles to take an 8-5 decision over freshman Taylor Amendola (Westbrook, Conn.) and senior Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, R.I.), playing in her final regular season home match.

Salve Regina (2-5; 2-3 CCC) freshman Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore Kasey Walther (Natick, Mass.) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win six straight games before holding on for an 8-6 victory at second doubles.

Gordon (7-5; 3-3 CCC) players won first sets in five of six singles matches. Gruber took a first set off Scots' sophomore Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) and finished her victory in straight sets.

Leading 4-2 after wins at first and second singles, the Scots needed just one victory at either fourth, fifth, or sixth singles. Salve Regina players rallied in second-set action to force deciding third sets in each of those matches.

Junior Hannah Damon (Mystic, Conn.) clinched the victory for the visitors with a 6-3 third-set score over Amendola at sixth singles.

Liguori was victorious in her final regular season singles match, serving the final game at love at fifth singles for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 triumph. Flynn finished the final match with a super tiebreak victory over Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.) at fourth singles.

Salve Regina returns to action on Monday with a re-scheduled match with Wentworth (at Harvard) with a 3:30 p.m. start. Gordon's next match is Wednesday when the Scots host Western New England (4 p.m.).
