Bio

Sue Silva began her second stint as an assistant coach at Salve Regina in 2022, helping the Seahawks to a 7-10-2 overall record and 4-3-2 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Silva returns to Salve after previously serving as an assistant from 2017-20. During that time, she coached eight all-conference honorees, including forward Abby McMackin ‘19, who became the third All-New England honoree in program history as a senior. 

Before returning to join Tanya Roberts’ staff, Silva spent the 2021 season as Co-Head Coach at fellow NEWMAC program WPI. She and Head Coach Steph Riley-Schafer were named the NEWMAC Co-Head Coaches of the Year after leading the Engineers to an 11-6-2 record (5-3-2 conference) and a conference semifinal appearance. Following the season, Silva was named the NEWISA Assistant Coach of the Year for Division III.

Two of Silva’s WPI student-athletes, forward Sofia Orrico and defender Annika Keck, were named United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region, and graduate defender Jenna Hirshfeld was tabbed a COSIDA Academic All-American. 

Silva has additionally spent time as an assistant at Wheaton College (Mass.) and UMass Dartmouth. While at Wheaton, the Lyons advanced to the NEWMAC semifinals and saw four student-athletes earn All-Conference honors. As a graduate assistant at UMass Dartmouth, Silva helped the Corsairs to the best season in program history and their first Little East Conference tournament appearance in 2013.

A four-year midfielder at Springfield College, Silva competed in three NCAA Division III Tournaments (2008, 2009, 2011), captured two NEWMAC tournament titles, and won three regular season titles. As a senior, she earned the program’s Unsung Hero Award.

Silva holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Springfield and a Master’s of Business Administration from UMass Dartmouth. She is currently a high school wellness teacher in Massachusetts.
