Lions tame Seahawks in CCC matchup

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team collected its first league win of the season Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium, downing Salve Regina 3-1.

The Lions climb to 6-7-0 on the year and 1-4-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the victory. The Seahawks dip to 4-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play with the result.

The home team grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute. Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) buried her fifth goal of the season, poking a shot past the goalkeeper after Kyera Bryant (Guilford, Conn.) lofted a pass into the box.

Eastern Nazarene extended its advantage to 2-0 with less than a minute remaining in the opening half. Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.) sailed a left-footed effort into the upper right corner of the cage to bag her third tally of the fall. Bryant recorded her second assist of the game on Hern's strike.

The Lions and Seahawks attempted eight shots each in the first frame.

Eastern Nazarene added a score in the 71st minute to widen the gap to 3-0. Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) hurriedly fired a direct free kick into a wide-open net to notch her second marker of the season. Salve Regina got on the board in the 74th minute as Lea Adams laced a free kick into the bottom corner of the goal for her second tally of the year.

The Lions produced 12 shots in the contest while the Seahawks manufactured 21 attempts on the night. Sophomore Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) registered 11 saves in her fourth start of the year in goal.
