CCC Pre-season Coaches' Poll: Women's Soccer No. 6

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer returned to campus Friday for its fall pre-season; today the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released the results of the its coaches pre-season poll for the sport.

Roger Williams was selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer preseason favorite as the Hawks earned 94 points in the 2017 CCC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Hawks snagged five of a possible 10 first place votes in the voting which was conducted by the 10 CCC women's soccer head coaches last week.

After completing its second-consecutive undefeated conference season in 2016 with a 7-0-2 (10-8-2 overall) mark in the CCC, Roger Williams was denied a shot at its third-consecutive conference title when it was upset by No. 8 seed Gordon in the first round. The Fighting Scots would continue all the way to the conference title match.

Endicott, which closed out the 2016 CCC campaign with a 7-2 (13-4-2 overall) record in the conference, followed close behind the Hawks in this year's poll. The Gulls got the five other first place votes and finished one point behind the favorites with 93.

Wentworth, coming off its first-ever conference championship falls into the No. 3 spot on this year's ledger. The Leopards earned a share of the regular-season championship a year ago as they amassed a 7-0-2 CCC (16-4-3 overall) record. In the NCAA tournament they advanced to the second round where they dropped a 1-0 decision to NCAA quarterfinalist Williams.

Lea Adams (Sandwich, Mass.) and Courtney Bouchard (Middleton, Mass.) co-captain a squad that features former CCC rookie of the year and two-time All-CCC performer, Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.), now a junior. More than any other Seahawk, she shifted constantly from forward to back within games and was able to provide some offense as well. She scored two goals on the year and both were game-winners (Sept. 8 vs. UMass Dartmouth; Oct. 15 vs. Curry) while adding two assists.

Returning goalkeepers Morgan McBrier (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Carly Pala (Milford, Conn.) present differing styles in net, and will compete for full-time duties.
