Maine Maritime defeats Salve Regina, 2-1, in overtime to advance to ECAC Region 1 Championship

Springfield, Mass. - The Maine Maritime women's soccer team advanced past Salve Regina in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Region 1 Championship Tournament on Saturday at Brock-Affleck Field. It was the first ever meeting in women's soccer between the two schools.

With the win, the Mariners improve to 10-6-2 with the win, and will advance to take on top-seeded Springfield College on Sunday, November 13 at 12 p.m. on Brock-Affleck Field.

In net for Maine Maritime, Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) notched four saves in the victory, while for Salve Regina, Morgan McBrier (North Kingstown, R.I.) posted four stops in the setback. Shots were 11-10 in favor of the Mariners, while Maine Maritime also held a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

With 25 minutes remaining in the first half, Salve Regina's Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) found the back of the net to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Kayla McLaughlin (East Hampton, Conn.) carried the ball down the flank and sent a cross into the box that was punched in by Galeazzi to put Salve Regina up one heading into the half.

It didnt take long for the Mariners to get the equalizer, as Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) found the back of the net on a pretty assist from Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine) just 1:41 into the second stanza to even the score at one apiece.

Finishing regulation still even at one, the Mariners would prevail when Caitlin Paradis (Ashland, Maine) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) 1:28 into the overtime period.
