BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's soccer team received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-0 shutout of Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The win pushes the Nor'easters' overall record to 4-1, while improving their conference mark to 2-0. The Seahawks dipped to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in league play.
UNE started slowly and was unable to get on the scoreboard until the 31st minute when rookie Katie Beaudoin (FY/Coventry, R.I.) chased down a long ball out of the UNE back that went off the foot of a Seahawk defender. Beaudoin took two touches before lifting a shot into the left side of the goal for her second collegiate tally.
The Nor'easters doubled their cushion just over four minutes later when Taylor Littlefield Langevin (SR/Sanford, Maine) converted a penalty kick after Salve was whistled for an infraction inside the 18.
Taylor Usko (SO/Sunapee, N.H.) gave UNE a 3-0 lead in the early stages of the second half after she controlled a loose ball in front of the goal mouth and pushed the ball across the goal line for her first marker of the season.
UNE, which built up a 20-6 margin in shots, got three saves from Brielle Robinson (SR/Monson, Mass.) for her 17th career individual shutout.
Carly Pala (SO/Milford, Conn.) had six saves in goal for the Seahawks, who play Bridgewater State University at home Tuesday.
The Nor'easters will host Bates College on Monday for a non-conference match kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
