NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University acting athletic director Kelly Scafariello announces that Jane Walsh (Portsmouth, R.I.) has been promoted to head coach of the women's soccer program. Scafariello, who successfully split the soccer/softball coaching positions in the department, says that Jessica DePolito remains as the head coach for softball and will start her third full season in the spring.

DePolito, who coached soccer for two seasons, will assist in the transition for Walsh who had been an assistant with the program in 2014.

"Coach Walsh has been instrumental with helping the team to move forward and I look forward to see her passion and knowledge of the game come through with each practice and match," says Scafariello.

After transferring to Keene State College (from the University of Rhode Island), Walsh had three seasons of significant participation with the Owls' women's soccer program. She earned all-tournament honors for defense at the Cardinal Classic (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) in 2012. Keene State produced a 45-23-6 overall record during Walsh's three seasons (2010-2012). She earned all-academic honors each year she was eligible.

Graduating with a degree in health science and a specialization in exercise, Walsh is pursuing a physical therapy doctorate.

Her coaching background includes stints as a personal trainer (Newport County YMCA, Keene State College) and working with the soccer camps at her alma mater.
