NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) had a goal and an assist in second half action as Endicott College women's soccer defeated Salve Regina University, 5-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Reynolds Field.
Endicott (8-5-1; 3-1-0 CCC) led 1-0 in the fourth minute of the contest on a goal from senior defender Madison Missinne (Ridgefield, Conn.). The Gulls continued to attack throughout the first half, but drew offsides whistles seven different times. Endicott outshot the host school, 6-to-1 in the opening period.
Salve Regina (2-10-1; 0-5-0 CCC) tripled its shot attempts in the second half but only two threatened Gulls' goalkeeper Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.).
The Gulls' advantage grew to 2-0 when freshman forward Jessica Joseph (Bedford, N.H.) scored her second goal of the season at 49:51.
The teams went scoreless for the next 23 minutes before Endicott struck with another first-year forward Mackenzie Gaudet (Concord, N.H.) off a pass from Marinelli. Senior forward Lexi Dussi (Boxford, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway late in the second half.
Marinelli finished the scoring in the game's final minute with her second goal of the season.
Senior netminder Jacqueline McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped eight Gulls' shots in the loss while Donnelly made two saves for the victory. Salve Regina returns to action on Monday when it hosts UMass Boston in non-league action on Reynolds Field (3:30 p.m.); Endicott hosts CCC foe Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.).
